Troubleshooting DNS Propagation Delays
When you update your domain's name servers to point to eBizAutos, the changes are not always instant. This period is known as DNS Propagation. Here is what you need to know if your site isn’t showing up immediately and how to troubleshoot the delay.
What is DNS Propagation?
DNS propagation is the time it takes for internet service providers (ISPs) across the globe to update their records with your new name server information (ns1.ebizautos.net, etc.). This process typically takes 1 to 24 hours, though in rare cases, it can take up to 48 hours.
Common Troubleshooting Steps
1. Clear Your Browser Cache
Your browser often "remembers" the old version of your site to save time.
- Action: Perform a "Hard Refresh" (Ctrl + F5 on Windows; Cmd + Shift + R on Mac) or clear your browsing history and cookies.
2. Check Your Propagation Status
You can see which parts of the world have "seen" your new settings using free online tools.
- Action: Visit a site like DNSChecker.org or WhatsMyDNS.net. Type in your domain and select NS (Name Server) from the dropdown. You should see a green checkmark next to our name servers.
3. Flush Your Local DNS Cache
Your computer also stores DNS lookups. If you are seeing the old site but others see the new one, your computer's cache may be outdated.
- Action (Windows): Open Command Prompt and type
ipconfig /flushdns, then hit Enter. - Action (Mac): Open Terminal and type
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder, then hit Enter.
4. Restart Your Router
Sometimes, your local Internet Service Provider (ISP) caches DNS data at the router level.
- Action: Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in to force it to pull the most recent DNS records.
When to Contact eBizAutos Support
If more than 24 hours have passed and you are still not seeing your eBizAutos site, please contact us. There may be a specific "TTL" (Time to Live) setting at your registrar that is holding up the process, or a secondary DNS record that needs to be removed.
Pro Tip: To ensure Minimum Interruption, do not cancel your old hosting service until you have confirmed that the DNS has fully propagated to eBizAutos.
